Over the past two decades, Brent has selflessly committed himself to coaching minor hockey in our community. He has coached numerous teams across a wide range of age groups and skill levels, always bringing the same dedication, patience, and leadership to every bench he stands behind. His ability to connect with players and support their growth, both as athletes and as people, has left a lasting impression on everyone he has coached. What speaks volumes about Brent’s impact as a coach is the deep respect and admiration his former players continue to show him, even years after they’ve moved on from minor hockey former players still keep in touch, come back to visit, and are always eager to help out with the memorial fundraiser or any team he’s involved with. This ongoing connection is a testament to the positive influence he’s had on their lives.
Brent has turned his grief into purpose and demonstrated extraordinary resilience by transforming personal grief into meaningful action by launching a memorial minor hockey fundraiser, a meaningful event that brings the community together, and supports the sport he and his son loved. Brent has been a cornerstone of the Cooper Nemeth Memorial Day since its inception, serving as Executive Director and playing a crucial role in every aspect of the event. Brent is deeply engaged in everything from planning and logistics to execution, with a hand in every detail that brings the day to life. He dedicates countless hours personally inviting participants, communicating with coaches, sponsors and donors, and coordinating and scheduling volunteers. His leadership extends across the entire organization, as fellow board members consistently turn to Brent for his insight, guidance, and support.
Through this event, Brent has created a meaningful legacy that supports young players and keeps his son’s spirit alive in a truly powerful way. This initiative has generated substantial financial support for young athletes who face barriers to participation, ensuring more children can play, grow, and belong in sport.
Brent had another fantastic year coaching minor hockey in Winnipeg, this season as the Head Coach of the U13 AA Thrashers White. This was Brent’s 8th consecutive season as a AA Head Coach. His impressive volunteering history is demonstrated by him serving as a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager and Safety Person on 23 different minor hockey teams since 2003.
This season Brent added another coaching accomplishment to his resume by travelling to Thompson in March for the 2026 Manitoba Games. Brent coached the Winnipeg Blue team at the event and as always was a strong leader.
The Cooper Nemeth Memorial Day has turned into the AA All-Star day and this year alone raised over $40,000 for the Cooper Nemeth Memorial Player Assistance Fund.
