Recognizing the Unsung Heroes of Canadian Sport

Behind every athlete is someone who believed in them—a coach, mentor, or community leader who gave their time, energy, and heart to help young people thrive through sport.

That’s why Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, in partnership with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, is proud to introduce the Community Champion Award — a new, national recognition program honouring grassroots coaches, mentors, and sport builders who make sport possible for children and youth across Canada.

These are the people who make early morning practices happen, who open gym doors after hours, and who create inclusive, affordable opportunities so every child can play, belong, and dream big.

Each year, one Community Champion will be recognized nationally for their extraordinary leadership and impact. The recipient will be announced alongside the new Class of Hall of Famers each June and honoured on stage at the Order of Sport Awards, sharing the spotlight with some of Canada’s most iconic athletes.

If you know someone who makes sport possible in your community — someone whose passion and leadership embody inclusion, access, and inspiration — we want to hear their story.

🏅 Nominations are open now through January 31, 2026.

Together, let’s celebrate the people who build a healthier, more equitable Canada — one athlete, one community at a time.
